About holiday pay

How it works,, and how you qualify to receive this payment.
What am I entitled to?
You are legally entitled to 28 days holiday in your holiday year, however everyone's holiday year is different, you should already be aware when your holiday year starts and ends, if not you can request this information by contacting VIGILO.

Am I automatically entitled to get paid for 28 days within my holiday year?
In a word, No. You cannot be refused time off, however to be paid for this time off you need to physically work shifts to accumulate holidays pay. This is called the 'holiday accrual' system.

How do I accrue holiday pay?
When you are working, you are also generating holiday pay, if you are not actively working you are not generating holiday pay. So it depends on how many hours you work as to how much holiday pay you accrue.

Isn't it based on the amount of days I work?
Because you are payrolled as a casual worker it is based on the amount of hours you work each week. So the more hours you work the more you generate holiday pay at the same time.

How do you work out how much holiday pay I have earned?
Let's pretend we have a pot with your name on it, we'll call it your 'holiday pot'.12% of whatever your weekly wage is will be placed in this pot and will be paid out to you when you take holidays.

How do I know when the holiday pot has enough in it to take holidays?
You can request an update at any time by using the feature in this app. This responsibility lies with you, not VIGILO.

What is a holiday year?
Your holiday year is a period of 12 months from one date to another in which you need to take any accrued holidays. Everyone will have a different holiday year as they start at different times throughout the calendar month, you can find out when your calendar year is by contacting VIGILO.

What if I don't take all my accrued holidays within the holiday year?
Everyone has a responsibility to ensure that they take all accrued holidays before the end of their holiday year. Any holiday pay that might be left in your 'holiday pot' at the end of the holiday year is lost and your new holiday year starts, we do not carry over holiday pay from one year to another. This is standard practice with any organisation.

You don't think it is fair to lose holiday pay if it has been accrued?
As explained previously, VIGILO cannot be held responsible if individuals don't plan their holidays ahead. We believe this is not an impossible task considering there is 365 days in the year allowing plenty of time to plan an average of 28 days holiday, and since everyone's holiday year is different, it would be difficult to keep track of everyone's holidays all the time.

When can I NOT take holidays?
We provide security to high end fashion boutiques and their busiest time of year is during December on the run up to Christmas and then January sales. This means that we do not allow holidays during December unless in extreme emergencies, and must be authorised by VIGILO Managers.
